Project Elements: Full Design & Build, Sound, Lighting, A/V, CCTV
Set in the historic Lanes, the venue has undergone a complete refurbishment taking much of the building back to its former beauty and restoring many of its original features from windows to brickwork. Even elements of the West Pier have been discretely incorporated keeping ‘Brighton’ at the heart of its design.
The venue is split into 4 main areas, each with its own feel and style. Within the main bar area, large areas of the walls have been taken back to the original brick, with a ‘luggage’ stack wall feature. The thick solid wooden bar top ensures the rustic and old English feel to the place is retained, with subtle lighting in the form of classic parcans throwing a warm red and amber glow throughout.
To gain as much space as possible, a new mezzanine area was built above the entrance which has now been nicknamed ‘The Library’ due to its quirky wallpaper, feature seating and lamps. The other mezzanine area has been converted from what was a walk-through, into a plush seating space with an amazing ‘log cabin’ style ceiling made from the cut cross section of logs. Mood lighting within the ceiling creates a subtle and changeable feel to the area. At one end of the space is the ‘Wardrobe’, giving the customer the opportunity to step through into a completely different world…
The champagne late lounge on the upper floor features crystal embossed black faux leather crocodile skin covered booth seating giving a real opulent house party feel, where funky bar grooves are played by skilled DJs – on vinyl of course. This unique space also features the popular ‘Barman’s Table’ where a highly skilled barman invites guests to enjoy a private gin, vodka, rum or champagne ‘experience’ and sample a range of leading brands whilst learning more about their history. More weird & wonderful design features such as the exploded champagne bottles on the ceiling, and the wall of cassette tapes make this room a feast on the eyes to any onlooker.
The upper floor also contains the roof terrace which has been transformed into a beautiful glass walled Veuve Clicquot Champagne roof garden with astro turf flooring and Veuve Clicquot giant sun-umbrellas to give the impression of a summer society garden party. By night, this glazed area is backlit with a green hue to increase the illusion of being in a garden.
